Senator Dianne Feinstein, elected to the U.S. Senate from California in 1992, has passed away at her Washington, D.C. home at the age of 90. She was a prominent advocate for gun control during her tenure in the Senate.

On Friday morning, James Sauls, Feinstein's chief of staff in the Senate, officially announced her passing in a statement.

Sauls expressed, "Senator Feinstein was an extraordinary woman who held titles like senator, chairman, mayor, wife, mom, and grandmother. She was a powerful force of nature and left a significant mark on our country and her home state.
