In a notable achievement for the Indian whisky industry, a homegrown spirit has clinched the title of the world’s best whisky brand, as declared by Whiskies of the World.
The coveted ‘Double Gold Best In Show’ accolade was bestowed upon the Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 during one of the most extensive whisky-tasting competitions globally. This annual event sees the participation of over 100 whiskies from around the world, undergoing a rigorous blind tasting process across various rounds. An esteemed panel of leading tastemakers and influencers in the alcohol and beverage sector ultimately selects the top whisky in each category.
Defying tough competition, the Indian peated class whisky triumphed over a myriad of international brands, including American single malts, Scotch whiskies, Bourbons, Canadian whiskies, Australian single malts, and British single malts.
Expressing their pride in this remarkable achievement, the creators of Indri, the Indian whisky, stated in a blog post, “Indri has secured its position among the finest whiskies worldwide. The Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 has clinched the prestigious Best in Show, Double Gold award at the esteemed Whiskies of the World Awards. This victory underscores the exceptional quality and the increasing global appeal of Indian single malts.”
Delving into the crafting process of the Diwali Collector’s Edition, Indri provided insights, stating, “The Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 is a peated Indian single malt, meticulously distilled with six-row barley in traditional copper pot stills crafted in India. Having undergone a significant maturation period in PX Sherry Casks amidst the sub-tropical climate of North India, this unique expression captivates with a hint of smoke and unfolds a symphony of flavors, including candied dried fruits, toasted nuts, subtle spices, oak, bittersweet chocolate, and more.”
This isn’t the first accolade for Indri, as their Single Malt Trini had previously secured victories in the Tokyo Whiskey and Spirits Competition 2023, the Fifty Best World Whiskies 2022 Award, the International Whisky Competition in Las Vegas, and earned a spot in the Whisky Advocate Top 20 Whiskies of the World list.
